Elham Dalir is a Mitacs postdoctoral research fellow working with Prof. Javad Mostaghimi at the Centre for Advanced Coating Technologies (CACT) and PyroGenesis Canada Inc. Her post-doc project aims to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions by thermal plasma torches and use them as a direct replacement for fossil fuel burners in industrial applications. She has received her Ph.D. from CACT in 2021, where she developed a numerical model to simulate the plasma jet oscillations, including the arc dynamics within a commercial direct current (DC) plasma torch. The developed model was then extended to simulate the suspension plasma spraying (SPS) process to understand the fundamentals of the droplets dynamics, heat transfer, and phase change within the process. Her research interests include thermo-fluid sciences, thermal spray technologies, surface engineering, and computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
